Phased team development
Team development involves a phased process to ultimately arrive at a high performing team. The starting point depends on the history and level of trust within the team. We recognize the following phases and are happy to guide teams to the next level:
- Forming: Getting to know each other. Making sure the composition of your team is clear;
- Storming: Dare to give feedback. Introducing Feedforward to give tops & tips;
- Norming: Determining team roles in your team. Agreements on who takes which role and when;
- Performing: Taking responsibility and delegating. Daring to trust blindly.
The result of this development? A high performing team without loss of energy. Easy? Certainly not! This requires a step-by-step development and practice to not fall back. But then it is child's play to set and achieve ambitious goals.
The first step in every team trip is forming the travel group, where everyone dares to show a little more of themselves. And this daring has to do with mutual trust, which is supported by an increased self-insight thanks to the Insights Discovery or MapsTell profile. The famous mirror of these profiles show everyone's strengths and areas for improvement, including tips on how to develop them. The positive 'colour language' makes it safe to share this.
During a first workshop, the team also gets physically moving on the Insights mat. With interactive exercises, everyone learns to better understand his/her wheel position, but also the mobility on the wheel. Most participants simply have two or three colors above average in their preferred position. And look at the other side; your opposite type has so much to offer you!
But this other side is quite difficult to understand/reach. The world is experienced from a completely different perspective. Thanks to a tour along core quadrants, participants notice that their own qualities on a good day can also be the pitfall on a bad day. With the bridge to positive addition of opposites and everyone's challenge, allergies are better understood.
In this we practice with the most important method for the 'storming' phase: Feedforward. Here participants learn to give better compliments and to indicate development points constructively. With the right flow (objective data > deeper feeling > dramatic interpretation > doing!) we show an easy way to give structural feedback. And we do not get stuck in the past, but look for improvement in the future. That is why we call this feedforward!
During a next workshop it is time to work on standardization. Our experience shows that a lack of a shared vision is often the reason for the lack of cooperation between colleagues. By determining team roles within your processes we introduce a smoother form of cooperation, the term "Is it workable?" and continuous smarter improvement via the role consultation. We appreciate individual differences, but introduce the shared focus.
With these team roles, it is now easier for all participants to retrieve the desired behavior, choose the right communication strategy per situation and determine priorities. This creates a natural role play (such as the famous 'good cop' and 'bad cop') with which everyone knows how and why someone does something. Personal job satisfaction increases automatically. We are now all in the same expedition with the same goal in mind!
The line between 'stretch' and 'stress' is thin. By not keeping the bow constantly tense and coaching each other, everyone's possibilities grow. In our workshops, that is exactly our style. Humor with a function, cooperation as a connection, information as a foundation and spicy stimuli as a stretch under supervision. We go a level higher than the participants had initially intended, but of course safely secured.
This is the moment where we add color to proven methodologies and models (Start with Why, Lean, Agile, Holacracy, HEI360, your own standards). With the help of G-Wave, we help teams find everyone's why, work out the necessary change in actions and visualize the end picture. The last step in this model is in our opinion the most beautiful: Who can help us to achieve the result more easily? Because alone you get somewhere faster, but together you get further!
Our workshops
Our programs are accessible and lasting. Although each workshop is unique, we have a formula that works every time. Connecting Colors uses the Insights Discovery and MapsTell models with the four colors as a foundation. We take the time to measure the preferences of the team, both individually and collectively, and to ensure that all colors are applied.

It is our responsibility to recognize the balance in the energy colors, and we will help you with that as well. Our programs have the right balance and we know when individuals are in their comfort zone, and when they are being challenged. There is a wide range of programs to choose from and we are happy to tailor a specific program with you based on your specific goals.
Often, the Insights Discovery model is the foundation of our approach. Whether it’s creating, improving or challenging a team, we use our portfolio of Insights Discovery products to make learning safe, to act as a catalyst for future development, and to ensure that learning sticks.
We also like to use the MapsTell model. This visual methodology uses the DISC color language in the metaphor of "The World of Difference". It is an accessible and fun way to give teams insight into your personal preferences, each other's position in relation to each other and the journey you will take together.
